Alexa not discovering DIYHue dummy light

Hi everyone,

I’m running into an issue with Alexa and DIYHue. I’ve set up a dummy light in DIYHue, and everything looks correct in the DIYHue dashboard. However, when I ask Alexa to discover devices, it doesn’t find the dummy lamp at all.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Verified that the DIYHue bridge is running and reachable on the network

  • Confirmed that the dummy light appears in the DIYHue app

  • Restarted both the DIYHue service and my Echo device

  • Made sure everything is on the same subnet

Still, Alexa ignores the device completely.
Could this be related to recent changes in Alexa’s handling of Hue emulation? Is there a workaround or setting I’m missing? Do I need to enable something specific for Alexa to recognize DIYHue devices?

Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I think alexa is using cloud discovery for hue.

If that is the case you not use it directly.

There are other options to get diyhue in alexa(and other smart home), for example homebridge is overing this service but it is not free

So does that mean DIYHue no longer works with Alexa at all?

Not at all but not native, and this in not because of diybue but because alexa does not support local setups anymore, welcome to the world of everything connected to the Internet. With a non philips hue bridge it is not possible to use the philips cloud.

Which solutions are still working?

What I use is Homebridge, connect diyhue to homebridge and then homebridge to google/apple/alexa, the only thing is that it is not free to use the connection form homebridge to alexa/Google.

For mee this works perfect almost no latency.
