I’m using raspberry pi 2 to emulate and as you know it doesn’t have wifi built in, and alexa doesn’t detect diyhue, is it really necessary to have wifi?

Is your pi plugged into your router via a network cable? How do you plan on adding any lights to DIYHue if you have no network connection? You do not need to have Wifi for Alexa to find it but it does have to be on the same network as the pi. How else would you expect the two to be able to communicate? Magic?!?
