Hue Sync app (Tizen OS, WebOS)

Hello!

Recently, I came across the announcement of the Philips Hue Sync app for LG TVs. Previously, this app was only available on Samsung TVs. At the moment, I have a DIY setup with a custom LED strip controlled by a controller based on RP2040.

Now, with the announcement of this app, I started wondering: is it somehow possible to connect my LED strip to it without using the Hue Bridge? As I understand, the Hue Sync Box is not currently supported, but overall, I believe it might still be possible (after all, nothing is impossible, right?).

Hi, you have diyhue running? And the entertainment service is working with other apps, like hue sync on pc/mac or the hue essentials app? Then probably this is going to work also. If it does not work please share the log of diyhue and maybe we can make it work.

I apologize if I wasn’t clear earlier and caused any confusion! Currently, I’m using a different method to control my LED strip — via HyperHDR, capturing the image directly from the TV. Since the Hue Sync app for LG TVs hasn’t been released yet, I’m exploring the possibility of using an alternative solution.
In theory, I’m curious whether it might work or not…

Yes you made some confusion when you say “diy setup” with this i thought you ment diyhue, we can not guarantee that it wil work, most of the apps/services work. What service is the rp2040 connected to? Do you have lights to connect to diyhue?

I can switch to any other suitable controller/firmware since that’s not a critical factor for me. I’m more interested in understanding the possibilities and limitations — for example, how many LEDs can be on a single segment, are there limitations on the number of segments, and whether the Hue Bridge is necessary or if it can be fully replaced with DIYhue to connect LED strips directly.
I’ve seen videos on YouTube showing DIYhue working with LED strips and the Hue Sync app for PC, which gives me confidence that it should also work with the Sync app for LG. However, I have some doubts since I haven’t come across examples of it working with the Sync app for Samsung.
Perhaps it would be best for me to wait for the app’s release and test it directly.

Hi, I have a setup running using the Hue Sync App on my Samsung TV which is connected to my diyhue instance and then using a ESP8266 running the Gradient_TV_Strip_WS2812 Firmware. Only limitation so far is, that you need a real Hue Bridge connected to your account. You don’t need to use it, but as the Hue Sync App requires a Hue account and having a bridge registered there is a prerequisite otherwhise the app will not start.
